How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor
In this video Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located on the outside of the transmission over the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is located on the outside of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. This sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to control fuel and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.
The sensor serves as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft so that it can activate the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate the possibility of a chain stretch or jump in the chain link of the upper chain of timing. However, the code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

2. Injectors
Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, I experienced an abrupt drop in power like the engine is running out of gas or injectors aren't firing at all. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When i crank the engine with no sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each of the injector holes, the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stay closed. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I got zero Ohm. I'm assuming that the issue audi replacement key is somewhere else.
I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car can start when the G28 is not plugged in and runs fine when it is connected however it has intermittent misfire issues at audi spare key replacement higher RPM. The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal by the RPM sensor.
